Lawyer Appeals Arrest of Protesting Refugees
The lawyer Elchin Sadigov filed an appeal against the arrest of two refugees from the Jabrayil region, Jalal Guliyev and Zaur Feyruzlu. These people were arrested for participating in a protest against blackouts in the Bilasuvar region. They were charged under articles 186.2 (damage to property), 233 (committing actions aimed at disturbing public order) and 315 (resisting a representative of authority with use of violence) of the Criminal Code.
According to the lawyer, Guliyev and Feyruzlu are kept in jail in Kurdakhani. However, the lawyer is unable to meet them. The appeal against their arrest will be considered by the Shirvan Court of Appeal.
According to Sadigov, just for taking part in the action about 10 people were detained. However, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office reported the arrest of only three protesters.
Recall that a group of refugees blocked the Bilasuvar- Imishli road on December 22 due to the power outage in their villages.
The police used force against the participants and there were injured on both sides.
The supply of electricity to 11 refugee villages was restored under the condition of gradual repayment of the debt. -05D--
