Leyla and Arif Yunus file an appeal
Human rights defenders Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus filed an appeal against the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal on December 9, 2015 in their criminal case, wrote on his Facebook page the lawyer Elchin Sadigov. He said that his clients were prosecuted unjustifiably and illegally. "The appeal is the iniquity of detail justified. Protection requires the termination of the case on the basis of justifying and cancellation of special confiscation," writes Sadigov.
Leyla and Arif Yunus, were arrested in July and August, 2014. Initial charge of treason (Article 274) was subsequently separated. The main accusatory Articles were large-size fraud (178.3.2), illegal business (192.2.2), tax evasion (213.2.2).
In August 2015 Leyla Yunus was sentenced to 8.5 and a half years in prison, and her husband - to 7 years with confiscation of property. Baku Court of Appeal changed the sentence to Arif Yunus on "conditional" with five years on probation. On November 12, 2015 he was released on bail. On December 9, 2015 the measure of restraint against Leyla Yunus, with the application of Article 70 of the Criminal Code, was also changed. She was released with a suspended sentence with five years on probation. -03B04-
