Mammadli: Let the CEC, the pro-government media and NGOs present financial reports
Anar Mammadov, the head of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDSC) appealed to the public. He praised civil society activists, political parties and international organizations for their support due to his unfounded arrest.
"I state again that the accusations are unfounded and illegal. The whole "guilt" of the EMDSC is that it is not pro-government and false structure," said Mammadov.
The EMDSC, using the right to freedom of expression, association and free elections, tried to promote free, fair, transparent and democratic elections. “However, apparently after the elections on 9 October, the government has completely lost the ability to tolerate attitude towards independent civil society structures. Reaction of prosecutors to our findings, and, not the CEC, is proof of an absence in the country of an independent and professional electoral administration," wrote Mammadov.
"At a hearing on December 16, an investigator noted that my arrest was due to the fact that I have stable relations with foreign countries and do not have residence in Baku. This is absolutely ridiculous," wrote Mammadov .
However, he stressed that he is ready to participate in the entire investigative process, to prove the inconsistency of the charges against EMDSC. However, it requires a similar transparency of the organizations involved in the elections.
"We look forward to the financial reports of the CEC elections on October 9. We hope that the pro-government media and NGOs also present monitoring reports and exit-poll reports,” said Mammadov.
He rejected accusations against the EMDSC about "illegal" activities due to lack of registration. The freedom of association is not classified by textbooks from the Law Faculty of Baku State University. It requires the revision of the decisions of the Strasbourg court, or at least the law of Georgia.
Charging the EMDSC for illegal business can only be the result of feudal thinking, he wrote in conclusion. —06D-
