Moscow to host the next meeting on the status of the Caspian Sea
The next meeting of the working group on the development of the legal status of the Caspian Sea at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the Caspian states, will be held in Moscow on November 20-22. Turan was told by the head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov.
The Working Group has spent more than 10 years on negotiations over a draft convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. Major differences remain between countries because of the position of Iran, which claims to receive 20% of the sea, with only 14 % of the coastline.
Another problem is the conflict between Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan over the oil and gas fields located at the junction of the national sectors.
This problem was solved by Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan, which was confirmed by a series of international agreements. -03B06-
