Most of the brought to trial for corruption are bank employees, prosecutors office
On July 15 the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General has reported on the results of its activity in the first half of 2016. At a press conference the head of the agency, Deputy Prosecutor Kamran Aliyev, said that during the reporting period 146 materials have been investigated, and on 97 of them (66%) lawsuits were filed. On 49 materials were adopted other decisions, and 60 officers were brought to disciplinary responsibility.
100 criminal cases against 143 persons were completed and handed over to the courts. These cases were associated with embezzlement, fraud, abuse, misappropriation of authority, and forgery.
On the cases sent to court was paid a compensation for damage amounting to 9 million and 785 thousand manats. Another 3 million 751 thousand manats were returned to the victim during the preliminary investigation.
Most (37) of criminal cases referred to the courts concerned the banking sector. The rest belong to the construction sector, trade, local executive authorities, municipalities, public health, education, Ministry of Labour, Transport, Internal Affairs.
Forty one officials were declared wanted. At the same time, 9 of them were detained by the police and handed over to the investigation organs. In 2015 on corruption cases 69 officers are wanted, and two were arrested. -03C-
