Netherlands Do Not Consider It Necessary to Spend Millions on European Games
The Netherlands refused to hold the second European Games in 2019.
The reason is the refusal of the government to allocate nearly 60 million EUR to the National Olympic Committee of the country in addition to the total budget of 125 million EUR.
"The news disappointed me, but I want to thank the Dutch for their interest. We are confident that the first European Games in Baku will be the perfect advertisement for this new sporting event and a demonstration of its long-term sports, social and economic benefits," said the President of the European Olympic Committee, Patrick Hickey.
However, he did not clarify the question of how to decide on the venue of the next European Games.-02D-
