President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree to rename the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy in Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry. By another decree, Mustafa Babanly was appointed the rector of the university.
Babanly is a representative of the younger generation of scientists, and previously was the pro-rector for International Relations of the Azerbaijan Technical University. Over more than a century this first oil university of the Soviet union was renamed several times. However, in everyday life, it is still called AZI (Azerbaijan Industrial Institute), as it was officially called in the 1934-1959 years.
In the years of the Soviet Union this university was the famous university, and students from the developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin Amerika got education here.-06-
