On May 13 unofficial information came from different sources about the arrests, detentions and interrogations of the oligarchs in the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Interior Ministry.
Among the invited "for a talk" was mentioned the name of Ibrahim Ibrahimov (Nehramli.) The name of the owner of the project Caspian Islands is among the debtors of the International Bank. By own admission of Nehramli, he took a loan of $57 million, but sources in the International Bank called the astronomical sum of 850 million. The end of the conversation with Nehramli isunknown.
Meanwhile, was confirmed the information about the arrest of another oligarch - Nizami Piriyev. Head of AzMeCo is charged under Article 178.3.2 (fraud with causing damage in large size). The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs GUBOP, Turanwas told by law enforcement source.
Piriyev is charged for not returning loans to the World Bank for the construction of a methanol plant. Piriyev can be imprisoned to 12 years with confiscation of property.
It should be noted that in the past Piriyev was engaged in business in Russia and the United States. From 1992 to 2002 he was president of the American oil company «PNN Arkansas Inc.», and then for several years worked as head of the Russian oil and gas company "StroyTransGazoyl."
Piriyev is the founder of PNN group, which includes the company and AzMeCo.

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
