Baku / 10.05.18 / Turan: The Yasamal district court of Baku on May 8 selected a preventive measure of arrest for four months against the youth activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Orkhan Bakhyshly.
He was charged under Article 234.4.3 (illegal drug trafficking on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, according to which Bakhyshly faces 5 to 12 years of imprisonment, Turan was told by the PFPA press service.
The party's leader Ali Kerimli believes the young man is being persecuted for political reasons on the basis of a false accusation. According to Kerimli, Bakhyshly was arrested because of his speech at the grave of the journalist Elmar Huseynov at the ceremony on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on May 3. Kerimli recalled that Bakhyshly accused the current authorities of killing the journalist.
Recall that Bakhyshly was detained in the square of the National Academy of Sciences by some people in civilian clothes on May 7.
It should be reminded that Bakhyshly was also detained on the eve of the opposition rally on March 31 and sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest. -06B--
