Salyan activist accuses top officials of embezzling budget funds
The head of the public association "Promoting Democracy" acting in Salyan, Emil Mammadov, addressed an open letter to President Ilham Aliyev to send to the district a commission to investigate the use of state budget funds allocated for public procurement.
Mamedov appeals to the President in connection with his recent comments that "the fight against corruption and bribery should be a case of the whole people" and "citizens should not remain indifferent to the negative phenomena" and promptly inform the public authorities.
In the letter Mammadov stated that in the area of ??public procurement contracts are held with no real winners in tenders and formal competitions are invariably won by companies associated with the head of the Salyan district, Tahir Kerimov, and the chief of the Special State Protection Service (SSPS), General Vagif Akhundov .
The pseudo-tenders are falsified by the chief of the financial department of the district administration, Mahir Kerimov.
In conclusion, Mammadov asks the President to send a commission to investigate the use of budget funds allocated for procurement.
Mamedov has commented publicly about corruption on the part of the district leadership before. However, representatives of the district administration denied that.
Our effort to get comments from the SSPS failed. -06D-
