Sentence against the editor of "Gundem Heber" is postponed for a week
The editor of the newspaper Gundem Kheber Shirin Jafarli today can be arrested and jailed. The attorney Mahir Huseynov demanded to deprive him of liberty for five years on charges of tax evasion on a large scale.
The prosecution believes reasonable the opinion of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Taxes on Jafarli's tax evasion to the amount of 71 thousand manats (Article 213.2.2 of the Criminal Code).
However, the lawyer Zaur Naftaliev believes that the amount is unfounded, since the documents refute this accusation.
The trial, which is being held in Ganja, chaired by Yashar Hasanov, must announce the verdict in 14 hours.
The judge rejected the defense's request to postpone the sentence for a few days to prepare the speech of the advocate.
The Office for Combating Corruption started the Jafarli case in 2011 at the request of the Press Council. Gundem Kheber is known as a critically-minded newspaper with a retail circulation of 1,500 copies. -0-
