Strengthened regime in Shirvan because of the trial in the case of theologian
Shirvan Court of Appeal today rejected a complaint for the arrest of Sardar Babayev, a Shia theologian from Masalla, Turan was informed by lawyer Javad Javadov. Babayev was taken into custody on February 22 on charges of violating the rules of religious propaganda, rituals and ceremonies. Babayev himself rejects the accusation and considers the criminal case to be ordered by the local authorities. The lawyer noted that police posts are located around the court of appeal at a distance of 500-700 meters. Several believers who arrived in court were detained, including human rights defender Ilgar Ibrahimoglu. "Even as a lawyer, I was not allowed to go to court. Only after I appealed to court, I was taken there by a car," said the lawyer. He intends to petition for the release of the theologian under the bail. The lawyer will also file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights. Immediately after the trial, the police persistently "asked" him to leave the city. Before leaving the city, a lawyer was accompanied by a police car. The Shirvan district police refused to answer questions from the Turan agency, advising them to apply to the Interior Ministry.
