The court does not release Ali Insanov under house arrest
Today in the Garadag District Court, under the chairmanship of Fuad Huseynov was considered the petition for the release of former Health Minister Ali Insanov under house arrest, told his lawyer Togrul Babayev. Insanov has been in detention since October 2005. Initially, he was accused of attempting a coup, but then was sentenced to 11 years for economic crimes. Despite the fact that the Strasbourg Court found a violation of his rights, the sentence against him was upheld.
Insanov was recognized by human rights organizations as political prisoners. In the autumn of 2016 a few weeks before the completion of the term of his imprisonment he was accused of illegal possession of drugs and resisting a representative of authority. Insanov called the charges spurious and forged in order to prevent his release.
Protection motivated his request by the fact that, the presidential decree of 10 February 2017, provided not to arrest for crimes that do not pose great danger to society. According to the lawyer, the alleged crime Insanov are just in time for the specified category.
However, the court rejected the petition and thus, according to the lawyer, violated the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code and the orders of the president. Defence appeal against the court decision.-03B06-
