The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of journalist
The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of journalist Sevinj Vagifgyzy on the ban on leaving the country. According to the lawyer of the journalist Shahla Humbatova, at the trial the investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigation Department of the Attorney General, Ali Babayev, said that the ban was imposed in connection with a lawsuit against the leadership of MeydanTV, where the journalist is a witness in the case. The lawyer said that the ban for the witness was illegal, but the judge and the prosecutor was not confused.
Earlier, on July 25, Nasimi District Court of Baku refused to accept the complaint of Vagifgyzy for production on the ban on leaving the country, and the journalist filed an appeal.
On September 20, 2015 Vagifgyzy, together with her colleagues Ayten Farhadova and Isolda Agayeva were detained at Baku airport on their return from Kiev. They were taken to the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Interior Ministry. The next day they were released. However, the journalist was not submitted a document on the grounds on which they were detained.
The authorities have long been trying to destabilize the activity of the Internet resource Meydan TV, which is based in Berlin. The channel founded by former political prisoner Emin Milli, is one of the most ardent critics of the ruling regime in Azerbaijan, which is the reason for persecution of journalists. -06D-
