The investigation against Elchin Ismayilli will be within then frameworks of the "Gulen case"
Today the Nasimi District Court extended the pre-trial arrest of journalist Elchin Ismayilli for another three months, said his lawyer Elchin Sadigov. According to him, the judge Shalala Hasanova satisfied the claim of the Investigation Department of the Serious Crimes Unit and extended the measure of restraint in the form of arrest until 12 June. The lawyer said the court's decision is unreasonable. "He is a journalist, public face. There is sufficient reason to believe that he will hide from the investigation," said the lawyer.
Elchin Ismayilli was detained on February 17 in Ismayilli region, where he lives and works. The next day, the court arrested him for 24 days on charges of extortion by threats and abuse of power. The journalist stated about the provocation and falsification of the criminal case.
Elchin Ismayilli is also a member of the Popular Front Party.
Today the term of arrest of two other members of the PFPA -Fuada Ahmadli and Faig Ammirli was extended until June 12 ,they are accused in connection with the “Gulen case.” The investigation against Ismayilli merged into one proceeding with the case.
The investigation does not explain how Ismayilli is connected in this case, which started in Azerbaijan after the failure of the coup in Turkey, the responsibility for which is laid on Ankara Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen.
"All three of those arrested are accused under different articles. Only membership in the PFPA unites them," said the lawyer Asabali Mustafayev. -05D06-
