The leader of the Islamic Partyplaced in the punishment cell for committing a prayer

The leader of the Islamic Party, Movsum Samedov, who is serving prison sentence in  jail N 12, was placed on March 6 in a punishment cell for five days. The reason for this was "the creation of unsanitary conditions and the commencement of prayer in the dormitory of convicts," the administration of the  jail informed the lawyer Yalchin Imanov. Imanov today visited Samedov in the  jail, who said that he did not violate the rules of the internal regime.

Over the past four months, Samedov has already been placed to the three times in a punishment cell, and before that he spent 2 years in a strict-security prison in Gobustan.

All these actions were deprived of legal grounds. Samedov believes that the purpose of these measures is to find an excuse to bring him back to Gobustan prison. T he attempts to get comments in Penitentiary service on this question  were futile. Samedov meanwhile, condemned the arrest  of the theologian Sardar Babayev at the end of February in Masalli. "The appeal of the authorities to the faithful resembles the times of the totalitarian Soviet period," he said through his lawyer.

Samedov was arrested along with a group of other activists of the IPA in January 2011 on charges of trying to seize power, illegal storage of weapons, and sentenced to 12 years in prison. The European Court has already begun to communicate on its complaint. -06B-
