Baku / 28.11.18 / Turan: Today the Surakhani district court of Baku began a judicial investigation in a criminal case against the adviser to the chairman of the Popular Front Party (PFPA),Mamed Ibrahim.
Mamed Ibrahim was arrested on September 30, 2015 and convicted of hooliganism for 3 years. He was recognized by human rights activists as a political prisoner.
The day before the end of the term, he was charged with illegal possession of prohibited items (knife), under which he faces up to 6 months in prison.
On September 28, the Yasamal Court chose a preventive measure in the form of an arrest for 2 months with regard to Ibrahim.
During today's meeting, chaired by Judge Jeyhun Gadimov, substantive hearings began.
M. Ibrahim declared his innocence, said the son of an activist Turan Ibrahim.
His lawyers petitioned to release him from the iron cage for the duration of the trial, to transfer him under house arrest, to terminate the criminal case on justifiable grounds.
The defense drew attention to the fact that there is no reliable evidence in the case that the piercing-cutting object was found under M.Ibrahim"s pillow. Examination did not reveal the presence of Ibrahim's fingerprints on the knife.
Theinspection in the barracks where he was kept was carried out when M.Ibragim went to namaz, then, according to the defense, the knife was put in there.
However, the judge rejected all petitions.
The hearing of the witnesses was postponed to the next meeting, which is scheduled for December 4. -06B-
