Tofig Yagublu needs intensive treatment - Dr Adil Heybullah
Baku/12.01.23/Turan: Opposition politician Tofig Yagublu is determined to continue the hunger strike he has been on for eight days now. This was told to Turan by Adil Heybullah, a doctor who visited the opposition politician at hospital No 6, where Yagublu was taken on January 11 from the Binagadi administrative detention facility.
According to Heybullah, Yagublu has been given a number of infusions to support his vital organs since yesterday.
"At present, his condition is somewhat stable and his blood pressure is normalised. As of today, there is no threat to his life," Heybullah said.
However, to his thinking, the hunger strike could pose a threat to his life, given his age and illnesses.
"His health has not fully recovered from the surgery he underwent.
Therefore, certain measures are necessary. That is, the issue of releasing him from custody and giving him intensive treatment or other options may be discussed. In any case, we are waiting for decisions. In the evening, I will visit him again. I am in regular contact with the doctors at the hospital. His health is under observation," said Heybullah.
At present, a hunger strike in solidarity with Yagublu is ongoing as well.
According to Babek Hasanov, a participant of the hunger strike at the headquarters of Musavat, two people suspended the action today and one more joined it.
So far the participants of the hunger strike have not had any serious health problems.
The hunger strike has been held at Musavat headquarters since 9 January.
As of today, 15 people are participating in the hunger strike in solidarity with Yagublu.
The participants of the hunger strike also demand the release of social activist Bakhtiar Hajiyev and other political prisoners.
* Tofik Yagublu, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces and the Musavat Party, was detained on 23 December at a protest in central Baku demanding the release of social activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev.
On the same day, the Sabail court arrested him for 30 days on charges of petty hooliganism and disobeying the police. On 5 January, the Baku Court of Appeal upheld the decision. Yagublu went on hunger strike in protest. On the seventh day of the hunger strike, Yagublu was transferred to Baku Hospital No. 6. -06В-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
