Trial of Intigam Aliyev Scheduled for January 16
The trial of the human rights defender Intigam Aliyev is scheduled for January 16 in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes chaired by Rasim Sadikhov.
The defense intends to seek justification of Aliyev because of the meaninglessness of the charges against him.
Intigam Aliyev was arrested on 8 August 2014 on charges of illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. Subsequently, he was also accused of embezzling and official forgery. Aliyev denies all charges and says they are politically motivated. Amnesty International has recognized him as a "prisoner of conscience". -06D-
