Two More People Arrested Due to Gyanja Events
Baku / 17.08.18 / Turan: Two more people were arrested in connection with the Gyanja events that took place in early July this year.
According to the joint statement of the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service, residents of Gyanja Aydin Gurbanov and Parviz Bayramov were arrested on charges of committing acts under Art. 228.3 (illegal circulation of weapons in an organized criminal group).
Recall that on July 3, a Russian citizen, native of Gyanja, Yunis Safarov, shot and wounded the head of the city Elmar Veliyev and his assistant Gasym Ashbazov.
A week later, on July 10, according to law enforcement agencies, a group of religious radicals numbering 150-200 people attempting to hold a protest action in front of the Gyanja city administration used violence against law enforcement officers, resulting in the killing of two high-ranking police officers.
On July 30, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov said 61 people were arrested in connection with the events in Gyanja on charges of grave crimes. Another 13 are wanted. The four who rendered armed resistance to the law enforcers were destroyed.
According to the media, after the Prosecutor General"s statement, two others were killed while resisting the law enforcers and several people were arrested. -03B06-

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
