"Khan of Nakhchivan" is removed. Who is next?
Baku/22.12.22/Turan: Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov resigned yesterday. An extraordinary session of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) was convened, at which Talibov's resignation was heard. It is reported that Vasif Talibov resigned for health reasons.
However, the recent processes around the autonomous republic, the arrests of high-ranking officials give reason to think that Vasif Talibov resigned for completely different reasons.
According to media reports, discussions were held in the highest echelons of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party in connection with the person of Vasif Talibov. Allegedly, some people represented in the “Yeni Azerbaijan party” (YAP) leadership demanded his expulsion from the party. It should be recalled here that V. Talibov is the chair of the YAP NAR organization and at the same time a member of the party's Board. And reports that just recently he was not allowed to attend an event in Baku on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the party only confirm this rumor. According to media reports, preparations are underway for the removal of Vasif Talibov from the actual control of Nakhchivan.
There were reports that he allegedly sold his personal jet, and then he was forbidden to leave the country and was not even allowed into the NAR.
And most importantly, in recent days, some media have begun to present the downing of a Russian helicopter in the direction of Sadarak, the day before the end of the Second Karabakh War, as a provocation by Vasif Talibov. There are those who write that for this reason that the country's authorities were forced to agree to the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Azerbaijan.
The head of the Institute of Political Management, Azer Gasimli, comments on the events taking place in Nakhchivan on the air of the “Difficult Question” program.
According to him, Vasif Talibov did not resign from his post, at his own request, he was made to leave. “Vasif Talibov has always acted within the rules of the power system. There was no case that he incurred the wrath of the first person. The reason for his resignation is as follows: after the 2016 referendum, the process of transformation of the economic system began in Azerbaijan. The transition from the “oligarchic” system to the system of family autocracy has begun - the concentration of all the political and economic resources of the country in one hand,” the political scientist believes.
Until 2016 Azerbaijan already had a monopoly on political activity. As for the economy, there were monopolies.
“Now, there are no monopolies in the economy, there is only one monopoly, which is concentrated in the hands of the Aliyevs. Obviously, in this project, the "last of the Mohicans" of the oligarchy, Vasif Talibov, had no place. So, they dismissed him,” Gasimli said.--0--

This move has stirred a discourse that spans beyond U.S. borders, roping in responses from Azerbaijani pro-government media and eliciting comments from local political figures like Natig Jafarli, chairman of the REAL Party in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani pro-government media have unleashed an unexpected wave of anti-Russian rhetoric, including claims of espionage at the "Russian House" and accusations that the opposition National Council has ties with Moscow. Chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces Jamil Hasanli dismissed the allegations as baseless, describing them as part of a smear campaign by the government to shift attention from its own close ties with the Kremlin.
