Agricultural Production Increased
According to the State Statistics Committee, as of October 1, crop production in Azerbaijan increased for all types of crops, except sugar beet, watermelon and cantaloupe.
They have almost finished collecting grains, legumes and potatoes. They collected grains (excluding corn) - 2,762.5 thousand tons, and potatoes - 948,000 tons. The share of wheat in total grain production was slightly above 70%.
Due to the fact that in the past year, farmers suffered some financial losses, this year there was a slight decline of the area under vine crops. Watermelon and melon production was 424.5 thousand tons, which is 10.5% less than in 2011.
The area under sugar beet roughly halved. The volume of sugar beet production in early October was 46.6 thousand tons, which is 35% less than in the same period of 2011.
The head of the Department of Agriculture Crop Sabir Veliyev told Turan the company Azersun Holding - a monopoly in the production of sugar in Azerbaijan did not pay enough attention to the development of the industry and buys raw materials from local farmers at very low prices. Therefore, farmers are not interested in this industry.
According to the SSC, on October 1, Azerbaijani farmers produced 1,136.7 thousand tons of vegetables. This is 0.7% more than in the same period last year. Fruit production was 516 thousand tons (+10.3%) and grapes - about 100 thousand tons (+22.2%). - 0 -
