Board of Directors of Telia Sonera to Sue Former Top Managers
The Board of Directors of Telia Sonera issued a formal statement (http://www.teliasonera.com/en/newsroom/news/2014/statement-from-teliasoneras-board-of-directors) about the possibility of filing lawsuits for losses against former top executives.
The document from the major shareholder of Azercell Telecom says that the reason for this is the data of the investigation, and the only exception is for the 2013 fiscal year, for which the former President and CEO of the telecommunications giant, Lars Nyberg reported, which is confirmed by the audit.
The head of Board of Directors Marie Erling explained that it is necessary to examine the company's operations and responsibilities of specific individuals in January 2013 to develop a position of the corporation on this issue in the interests of the shareholders, as well as in connection with the study of the activities by the authorities of the United States, the Netherlands and Sweden. According to her, the recent scandals with the activities of Telia Sonera are associated with the detection of suspicious links of the top managers of its subsidiaries with contractors in Kazakhstan and other former Soviet countries.
Recall that due to the corruption scandal involving members of the Islam Karimov family, the President of the Norwegian company Telenor, Fredrik Baksaas was recently forced to resign, leaving the Supervisory Board of Vimpel Com because of allegations of corruption in the Prosecutor's Office of the Netherlands in entering the Uzbek market.
The "quiet" scandals related to the activities of managers can be considered one of the reasons for the creation of Speak-Up Line – a special channel for receiving complaints. Under the new rules, from October 22 this year, every dissatisfied customer or contractor of the same Azercell and other divisions of the corporation can challenge the policy of the cellular operator, pointing to unethical business practices and other violations.
Information on possible violations and problems is taken anonymously, and is considered clockwise by the Division of Ethics and Compliance of Telia Sonera in Stockholm, bypassing the representatives of the subsidiaries in Azerbaijan. --17D-
