Return of Cheap Flights with WizzAir
The low-cost airline WizzAir (Hungary) returns to Azerbaijan.
As local journalists were told by the Vice-president of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), Arif Mammadov, the agreement on all disputed points was achieved, and already on October 28 the sides will sign an agreement on preferential conditions for the Hungarian company. Tensions were due to implementing the proposals of the Azerbaijani side to make flights to Gabala, but the Hungarians insisted on landing at the airport named after Heydar Aliyev.
Flights Budapest-Baku-Budapest will be resumed, presumably from the second half of March next year. The flight frequency will be first once a week and increase to twice a week in the summer.
Recall WizzAir quickly gained popularity among local tourists for its cheap tickets, but becoming a competitor to the national airlines, it was indefinitely ousted from the market. Earlier, based on the growing flow of passengers, the Hungarian party considered the question of opening a visa center to provide technical services in the registration of Azerbaijani citizens with so-called Schengen visas. With the return of WizzAir this issue once again becomes relevant. --17D-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
