Russia Main Supplier of Baby Food to Azerbaijan
It is estimated that infants breastfed are up to 50% of the total number of births in Azerbaijan. Approximately half of the mothers, for whatever reason, are forced to use artificial infant milk formulas, which are supplied from abroad.
According to the State Customs Committee, in the first nine months of this year Azerbaijan imported 1,710.8 tons of baby food worth $ 9,886 400. A ton of the commodity was declared at $ 5,778.8. Most babies in Azerbaijan are fed artificially with Russian, Dutch and German food. This year, Russian producers packaged for export to Azerbaijan 790.3 tons of infant formula. From the Netherlands were imported 435.6 tons, from Germany - 311.7 tons of breast milk substitutes. Baby food is purchased in Switzerland (38.6 tons), Turkey (23.6 tons), Poland (62.6 tons), Belarus (3.9 tons), Denmark (17.6 tons), France (0.5 tons), Jordan (8.8 tons), Serbia (6.1 tons), Slovenia (9.3 tons) and New Zealand (2.2 tons).
Retail price per pack of baby food in Azerbaijan, depending on the weight and age of the baby, vary within 2.5-16 manat.
Note that a ton of Russian infant formula is declared at the local customs office at $ 3,703.7. Baby food of Swiss production takes place abroad at the price of $ 8,528.5 / ton, Dutch production – 7,930.6 $ / t. Products based on goat's milk from New Zealand and available for infants are priced at $ 29,800 per ton.
In 2013, Azerbaijan imported 2,870.2 tons of baby food worth $ 21 595 800. Imports increased by 519.1 tons, or $ 2.6 million.
In 2003, Azerbaijan adopted a new law "On feeding children breast milk." This law defined aspects related to the promotion of breastfeeding, care of mothers who feed their babies with breast milk, and control over the production and sale of artificial mixtures. --08B-
