Since august SOCAR plans to start shipment of chemical products via terminal to Kulevi
Monthly volume of transshipment of chemical products via the Kulevi oil terminal of SOCAR company will total about 4,000 tons. This will become possible owing to the new complex for propylene transshipment.
A source from SOCAR said that annual volume of transshipment of chemical cargoes via the Kulevi terminal will total about 50,000 tons. Transshipment of chemical products will start in August 2012.
The complex for transshipment of propylene includes compressors, transformers, nitrogen stations and a platform for propylene shipment. The complex allows loading products into the tankers directly from the railway cisterns.
Kulevi port was built on the Black Sea coast, in the mouth of Khobizkali river. The ships come to the port through the artificially dug canal 3.6 km long, 160 meters wide and 16-18 meters deep. There are three berths in the port: two deep-water ports to receive tankers with various dead weight, including modern Aframax vessels and one as a parking for auxiliary fleet.-0-

Azerbaijan’s economy, which is heavily dependent on oil revenues, faces a stark warning in the 2021 report by Carbon Tracker titled “Beyond the Oil States: The Urgent Need to Reduce Dependence on Oil in the Context of the Energy Transition.” The report ranks Azerbaijan among the most vulnerable oil-dependent countries, placing it in the "5th group" — a category reserved for nations expected to experience a decline in oil and gas revenues exceeding 40% over the next decade. This group includes Angola, Bahrain, Timor-Leste, Equatorial Guinea, Oman, and South Sudan, highlighting shared economic risks for these states.

In Azerbaijan, the government has increasingly relied on tax exemptions for imported goods as a tool to stabilize domestic market prices. The exemption from the 18% VAT on wheat imports, extended this year, exemplifies this approach. New measures have also been introduced, including tax relief on imports of electric vehicle chargers, while exemptions for high-cost medications are currently under discussion. Notably, defense imports continue to be free from taxes and customs duties.
