Sixteen Thousand Tons of Cotton Picked in a Week
As of November 14 Azerbaijan picked 64.1 thousand tons of cotton, 30,000 tons more than in the comparable period of 2015.
The State Statistics Committee published data on the volume of cotton harvested in the weekly interval. Last week cotton growers sold 16,000 tons of cotton to the ginneries.
Since then, the government has twice revised the cotton subsidy mechanism. First, the cotton harvest was likened to the harvest of wheat and rice, which is provided financial assistance in the amount of 90 manat per 1 ha. A month earlier subsidies were tied to the ultimate productivity: for every kilogram of harvested cotton the farmers receive 10 gepiks.
This year, cotton is grown on 52,057 hectares of land.
The Head of the Plant Growing Department of the Ministry of Agriculture Imran Jumshudov told Turan proposals are prepared to amend the granting of subsidies and to decide on certain other industrial plants.
Prior to this, innovations were used to subsidize the production of tobacco and silkworm cocoons. -----08B
