President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on 4 July on the allocation of 12 million AZN to the Ministry of Agriculture for the needs of seed crops.
These funds will be used for the construction of specialized enterprises for the production and storage of different varieties of plants, providing them with machinery and equipment.
The decision was made in order to meet the needs of the country for productive seeds of high quality plants, increasing seed production, maintenance, cleaning, packaging, labeling and storage of seeds of plant varieties.
Recall that in March 2015 the State Seed Fund was established under the Ministry of Agriculture. To ensure the activity of the Fund 10 million AZN was allocated from the state budget.
Commenting this decision of the government for Turan, the independent expert Vahid Maharramov said that the only role of the state in ensuring the development of seed growing is to support the scientific work in the field of genetics and selection of high-quality plant varieties that meet the climatic conditions of the country. In Azerbaijan, the government represented by the Ministry of Agriculture is engaged in economic activity actually. The economist believes that financial support is needed to the private sector, which should take over the production and storage of seeds. ------08D
