The head of SOCAR: "Citizens of Azerbaijan can also purchase our securities"
State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) decided to strengthen the domestic stock market of Azerbaijan. For this purpose it is going to issue corporate bonds in 2013, journalists were told by the president of SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullayev.
"This year, we have issued bonds for the international market, and we got very good results. Why do not we do it for the local market, which to some extent can revive the domestic capital market," said the head of SOCAR.
According to him, he had already instructed the relevant services of SOCAR to consider the possibility of issuing bonds, intended for the domestic market of Azerbaijan. It is supposed that the amount of bonds will be 500 million manat. It is planned to issue bonds for five years, and to spend the funds for the development of promising structures, including the development of gas condensate field "Umid".
SOCAR head also noted that these bonds can be acquired both by companies and ordinary citizens. For the first time SOCAR issued bonds to the international market on 2 February, 2012. Then in London from the placement of Eurobonds the company received $500 million with income 5.45% per annum. The maturity date of the primary Eurobond is defined on 9 February, 2017. --12В--

Azerbaijan’s economy, which is heavily dependent on oil revenues, faces a stark warning in the 2021 report by Carbon Tracker titled “Beyond the Oil States: The Urgent Need to Reduce Dependence on Oil in the Context of the Energy Transition.” The report ranks Azerbaijan among the most vulnerable oil-dependent countries, placing it in the "5th group" — a category reserved for nations expected to experience a decline in oil and gas revenues exceeding 40% over the next decade. This group includes Angola, Bahrain, Timor-Leste, Equatorial Guinea, Oman, and South Sudan, highlighting shared economic risks for these states.

In Azerbaijan, the government has increasingly relied on tax exemptions for imported goods as a tool to stabilize domestic market prices. The exemption from the 18% VAT on wheat imports, extended this year, exemplifies this approach. New measures have also been introduced, including tax relief on imports of electric vehicle chargers, while exemptions for high-cost medications are currently under discussion. Notably, defense imports continue to be free from taxes and customs duties.
