Azerbaijan is currently selecting a company to build the country's first industrial battery energy storage system, Deputy Minister of Energy, Elnur Soltanov, told journalists. The state-owned company "Azerenerji" is conducting the necessary work to integrate renewable energy sources with a total capacity of around 2 GW into Azerbaijan's energy system. Currently, eight renewable energy projects with a total capacity of approximately 2 GW are underway in the country. To integrate these capacities into the energy system, the system operator "Azerenerji" is implementing innovations and modernizing the infrastructure, Soltanov noted.

Spanish companies are expressing interest in investing in Azerbaijan's renewable and green energy sectors. This issue was discussed during a meeting between the agency's director, Javid Abdullayev, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Spanish Embassy in Azerbaijan, José Pedro Torrubia, according to the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy.

Freight transport along the Middle Corridor will be powered by green energy, according to Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (Azerbaijani Railways JSC). He highlighted that a joint project with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on decarbonization is being implemented. "During the ADB mission's visit to Baku, preliminary approval was given for additional grants to the railways for decarbonization. This will enable us to ensure almost 100% of freight transport along the Middle Corridor uses green energy," Rustamov said.

In the first ten months of 2024, Georgia produced 12.3 billion kWh of electricity, marking a 0.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. According to the Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO), 83% of the total electricity generated was from hydroelectric power plants (HEPs), amounting to 10.2 billion kWh. Thermal power plants generated 2.1 billion kWh, and the Kartli wind farm produced 66.27 million kWh.
