U.S. Pledges 'Unwavering And Unflinching' Support To Ukraine Until The War Is Over — Karen Donfried
Washington/09.11.22/Turan: A senior State Department official on Tuesday vowed continued support for Ukraine regardless of the results of the mid-term elections in the U.S., TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
“... Congress represents many, many different opinions, and I think we have seen the vast majority of members of Congress, Republicans and Democrats, have been clear about their, about our enduring support for Ukraine,” Karen Donfried, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, said in an audio briefing with reporters.
Asked by TURAN's correspondent whether the U.S. will support Ukraine with weapons and money until every last Russian soldier has been forced out of every inch of Ukrainian territory, Donfried said, Washington "will continue to do that until this war is over."
"We are very clear that Ukraine did nothing to provoke Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24. This is a clear case of what is right and what is wrong, and Ukraine is in the right – the fundamental principles the UN Charter is based on, that the United States believes in, about respect for sovereignty, respect for territorial integrity, might does not make right," she explained.
As per Donfried, the assistance the U.S. gives to Ukraine "is so that when Ukraine does get to the negotiating table, it is in the strongest possible position, that military support, our economic support, our humanitarian support, our political support will continue."
