A new platform of European election observers

Twelve NGOs from the EU "Eastern Partnership" and Russia have set up a European Platform for democratic election.

It happened on December 12 at a meeting in Warsaw, according to a press release from the  Election Monitoring  and Democracy Studies    (EMDSC)- one of the founders of the platform. 

According to the coordinator of the platform,  the head of the "Exchange  in Europe" (Germany), Stephanie Shifter, the main purpose of the structure is to help the supporters of democratic elections regardless which European country they  represent. 

The new structure will assist local observers in the "Eastern Partnership" - Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia and Moldova, as well as in Russia. In particular, it is expected to support the monitoring of the presidential elections in 2013 in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as local elections in the Russian Federation.

According to the  head of the EMDSC Anar Mammadov, the platform will conduct an expert evaluation of the situation and the election,  will make recommendations to the  CE, EU and OSCE to provide necessary assistance to ensure democratic elections.

Platform was established by 12 NGOs from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Germany, Sweden and Norway. –06B--
