Ali Hasanov Reassured; 7 Year Presidency Impossible
The main ideologue of the authorities, Ali Hasanov refuted reports common in a number of media on the extension of the term of office of President of the country from 5 to 7 years.
In an interview with reporters Hasanov said that "there are currently no initiatives to change the Basic Law." He called the reports of extending the powers of the president "misinformation."
It should be noted that under the Constitution the presidential term is 5 years.
At the same time, in March 2009, the Constitution was amended to allow a person to run for president indefinitely.
However, independent experts believe that these rules do not apply to the current head of state Ilham Aliyev, because at the time of his election as president in 2003 and 2008 the rule acted, prohibiting a person to be elected president more than twice. -16D-
