Ali Kerimli: government saw the people"s power
The protest against death of soldiers succeeded and showed the strength of the Azerbaijani society. These comments came from the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ali Kerimli on the outcome of Saturday's protest rally in the center of Baku.
"Young people led a successful protest. Of course, such actions will not return the soldier Jeyhun Gubadov and other victims, but they will help to prevent more deaths in the army, " wrote Kerimli on his page on Facebook.
He shared some conclusions about the action. In Kerimli's view, the authorities saw the strength of the people and now will have to take measures to improve law and order in military units, and will be afraid to cover crime in the military.
In addition, according to Kermli, the Saturday action showed that new protesting youths grow in the country. "Azerbaijan has entered the era of Facebook. From now on, it is not as it was in the past, " believes Kerimli.
Another result of the action was demonstration of the society's ability to consolidate around national interests and ideas, in spite of differences in political views.
On the other hand, the police showed they can act in a civilized way, if there are no repressive orders from above.
However, the action showed that if the authorities do not arrange provocations, peaceful protests can be carried out in the city center. -06D -
