Azerbaijan-Armenia: Blinken, Michel Discuss 'Durable Peace' Ahead Of Brussels Talks
Washington D.C./11.05.23/Turan: U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and European Council President Charles Michel discussed the Karabakh issue ahead of the forthcoming Brussels meeting of Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
Blinken spoke with Michel on Wednesday, the State Department said. They discussed "opportunities for supporting a sustainable and durable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a readout of the call.
Blinken and Michel also reaffirmed U.S. and EU support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, according to the readout.
Early this week, the State Department welcomed the EU announcement of Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting with Charles Michel on May 14, which follows recent talks in Washington that prompted Blinken last week to suggest a breakthrough was possible.
"This is an important opportunity to build on forward momentum following talks in D.C," the Department said via its Europe and Eurasia division Twitter account.
