Bayramov and Borrel discussed situation around Lachin road
Baku/23.12.22/Turan: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrel, on 22 December.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry press service reported that during the conversation the sides discussed the current situation in the region, the events which caused protests by Azerbaijani civil society representatives, the European Union's mission to Armenia, as well as the current issues of cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the EU.
Bayramov pointed out that the cause of the justified protests by Azerbaijanis holding a peaceful demonstration on the Lachin road was the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in the territory of Azerbaijan and environmental problems, as well as the abuse of the Lachin road, which is only intended for humanitarian purposes. The importance of ceasing illegal activities contrary to the national legislation of Azerbaijan was stressed.
Bayramov also noted that the accusations that the Lachin road is allegedly closed by Azerbaijan are absolutely unfounded.
According to the Minister, a number of vehicles regularly freely passes along the highway related to the delivery of goods for the use of local residents or the provision of necessary medical services.
For his part, Borrell added that the current tensions in the region are a cause for concern and emphasized the importance of commitment to the ongoing peace agenda between the two countries.
Views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest. -06В-
