Britain stands ready to support human rights progress in Azerbaijan - Leo Docherty
Baku/22.06.23/Turan: The British Minister for European Affairs Leo Docherty has met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to discuss further cooperation on security, trade and cultural ties.
This is reported iby the British Embassy in Azerbaijan.
Docherty enphasized the UK's unique position as the biggest foreign investor in Azerbaijan in supporting the diversification of its economy and promoting an energy transition process that will enable Azerbaijan to exploit its renewable energy potential.
"The UK's leading role in demining the recovered territories was highlighted as a clear example of London's commitment to peace in the region and the way the UK supports Azerbaijan," the statement went on to say.
Acknowledging the destabilising behaviour of Iran and Russia, the Minister also reiterated the UK's offer to support Azerbaijan in enhancing its cyber security and increasing its resilience to hybrid threats, the press release further noted.
Docherty also underlined that the UK stands ready to support progress in Azerbaijan on human rights, which is important for a successful and prosperous future of the country.
Bayramov met with the British Minister as part of the Fifth Strategic Dialogue between the two sides. The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister also held a meeting with his British counterpart, James Cleverley.
Note that Bayramov's visit was the first visit by an Azerbaijani Foreign Minister over the last 10 years. -0-
