Court of Appeal Did Not Allow Musavat to Campaign Against Referendum
The Baku Court of Appeal today rejected the appeal of the party Musavat against the CEC refusal to register the campaign group Republic for the referendum on constitutional amendments. Turan was told by the head of the apparatus of the party Musavat, Gulaga Aslanli.
The complaint was considered by judges chaired by Mirza Taghizadeh. The representative of Musavat declared the groundless of the decision to invalidate 3,600 of the 41,128 voters' signatures submitted to the CEC for registration of the campaign group Republic. The party considers the CEC decision "political".
The appeal from Musavat stated that according to the Electoral Code, 24 hours before the debate on the registration of a campaign group, the working group, checking the signatures, should submit its report. It should mention specific signatures considered invalid and explain the reasons for this conclusion. But this protocol has not been presented.
‘We have suggested verifying the signatures in court again. However, the court, without providing counter-arguments, dismissed the appeal,’ said Aslanli. Musavat will submit an appeal against the Court of Appeal decision. -06D-
