E.Mammadyarov: Armenia distorts the essence of the negotiation process
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov refuted the statement of his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian on the loss of power of "Madrid principles" on the Karabakh settlement proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group in 2007. Nalbandian said that on the table there are only "Kazan principles", and all other documents previously nominated by mediators, including the "Madrid principles" have been submitted to the OSCE archive.
Mammadyarov said that the Armenian side distorted the negotiating process. "Attempts to distort the essence of the negotiation process and to submit it to unilaterally is another frivolous and destructive approach of Armenia to the resolution of the conflict," quotes Mammadyarov the AZERTAJ agency.
The statement about the loss of power of "Madrid principles" on the grounds that they were handed over to the OSCE Depository does not correspond to any logic.
Mammadyarov said that in accordance with the requirements of UN Security Council Resolution 822 (1993), 853 (1993), 874 (1993) and 884 (1993) the Armenian armed forces must be fully and unconditionally withdrawn from all Azerbaijani territories, it is necessary to guarantee the territorial security and sovereignty of Azerbaijan within the borders recognized internationally. Azerbaijan has repeatedly expressed its readiness to start a comprehensive political process to resolve the conflict on the basis of these principles, Mammadyarov said.
He said the sooner Armenian leadership realizes that it must withdraw its occupying troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, the sooner they will be ensures peace and stability in region.-06D-
