EU and Azerbaijan Implement Six Projects in Transport
Baku / 13.06.19 / Turan: The European Union is counting on signing an agreement with Azerbaijan "on open skies" by the end of this year, Johannes Hahn, the Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, said at a business forum in Baku on June 13.
Noting that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU has become much more intense in recent years, he expressed the hope that this year the parties will sign an agreement on "open skies".
This agreement will contribute to the simplification of air links between Azerbaijan and the EU countries. The parties will mutually eliminate the obstacles for the flights of each other"s airlines.
In 2016, Azerbaijan signed a similar agreement with the United States.
At the forum, Khan also said that over the past 10 years, the EU has provided Azerbaijan with financial assistance in the amount of 207 million euros. These funds were directed to the development of small and medium businesses in Azerbaijan and contributed to improving the welfare of 11 thousand people.
In addition, Azerbaijan and the EU have identified priorities in the field of transport. Thus, 2.6 billion euros will be allocated for the implementation of 6 projects in the field of transport. These projects will expand the transport capacity of Azerbaijan, Khan said, without specifying exactly which projects are meant. -06D--
