EU condemns dismissal of police in Turkey
The EU concerned police resignations in Turkey, and demands to investigate all allegations of corruption violations by the authorities, said on January 8 spokesman of the European Commission (EC), Olivier Bailly.
"Dismissal a large number of police officers, which culminated in the resignation of 350 policemen in Ankara on Monday night, caused our concern. We demand from Turkey as a candidate country, to commit themselves to implement the EU accession criteria, including respect for the rule of law, and do everything possible that all applications , including violations on the part of some leaders, were investigated impartially and without discrimination," said Bailly.
In recent days, the Turkish authorities have dismissed 350 police in Ankara , including the leaders of the major police departments and heads of major police departments in 16 provinces of the country against the backdrop of a major corruption scandal . Government dismissed the heads of departments to combat financial crimes, smuggling and organized crime.
Layoffs have occurred against the backdrop of a corruption scandal that erupted after on December 17 last year police detained several dozen people - businessmen, officials and their relatives on suspicion of fraudulent government tenders, abuse of office and bribery. Three members of the government, whose children were involved in the scandal, resigned. A week after the arrests , Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan replaced ten ministers. -02D-
