Firing Missiles Under Nose of Baku
Yesterday four ships of the Caspian Flotilla of Russia resumed rocket attacks on Syria from the Caspian Sea.
At this time, the Russian command did not report exactly from where the starts were made, unlike the first starts on October 7. Then four ships of the Russian Navy passed through the Azerbaijani sector of the sea and entered the Iranian sector, from which they fired missiles. This caused a stir and a serious concern in many countries, except Azerbaijan, which did not react to launches of cruise missiles in the vicinity of its borders.
In the Russian media reports about the second launch an important point is that this time strikes on targets in Syria were also applied by long-range aviation from the Caspian Sea.
According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, strategic bombers Tu-160 and Tu-95MS carried out 34 launches of air-based cruise missiles against targets in Aleppo and Idlib.
This means that Russian aircraft flew in the vicinity of the land borders of Azerbaijan and over the Azerbaijani sector of the sea.
Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that they coordinated their actions with the countries of the region and their partners. Who, exactly, they had in mind, was not reported.
It is not difficult to guess that Baku agreed to such actions of the Air Force of the Russian Navy from its shores. The question is for what, or in exchange for what it was done. However, to be absolutely precise, it is a violation of the sovereignty of Azerbaijan, for according to the Constitution, the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is a territory of the country.
From a political and legal point of view, such actions prove the cynicism of the authorities of Russia and Iran, who have repeatedly stated that the Caspian Sea is a sea of peace and that any military activity here is unacceptable. -02B-
