Following Senate, French National Assembly Adopts Resolution Calling for Recognition of Karabakh’s "Independence"

Baku / 03.12.20 / Turan: The French National Assembly adopted a resolution on December 3, calling for the recognition of the "independence" of Nagorno-Karabakh. 188 deputies voted for, with three against. This was reported by the Armenian media with reference to the French Embassy in Yerevan.

The resolution is of a recommendatory nature to the French government. During the discussion of the draft resolution, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said he did not consider the recognition useful for the negotiation process.

In the resolution, the deputies emphasize the need to reach a final solution to the conflict, which would guarantee the security of the civilian population, as well as the need to establish peace and recognize the "independence" of Nagorno-Karabakh.

French MPs urge their government to reconsider the issue of continuing the process of Turkey's accession to the EU, taking into account Ankara's position during the conflict.

The need for effective protection of Christian communities in Europe, in the East and around the world is emphasized.

The resolution notes that "France, as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, remained a neutral mediator in the conflict, but the negotiation process on Karabakh was disrupted by military actions on the part of Azerbaijan."

According to the document, "A large number of mercenaries from terrorist organizations are present in the conflict zone, with the active support of Turkey, and war crimes are being committed against the Armenians of Karabakh, so serious that they pose a threat of their extermination, which was previously faced by Christians and Yezidis in the Middle East." ...

On November 25, the French Senate adopted a resolution calling on the country's government to recognize the "independence" of Nagorno-Karabakh. 305 deputies voted for the document, with 1 against.     -02D-
