Baku / 06.04.20 / Turan: On April 5, Abdul Abdulov (Haji Abdul), akhund of the Baku mosque Imam Hussein, died of heart failure.
In the early 90s a 80-year-old Haji Abdul created the religious movement "Tovbe", which soon actually became a political party. The religious activity of the society was combined with support for the course of the then leader of the country, Ayaz Mutalibov.
After the Popular Front came to power, Haji Abdul was persecuted.
Negative attitude towards him continued under Heydar Aliyev, but from the mid-90s Abdul departed from politics and limited himself to religious propaganda in the mosque of Imam Hussein.
However, in 2013, he unexpectedly made a proposal to nominate Mehriban Aliyeva as a presidential candidate. Since then, his relationship with the authorities began to improve. In recent years, he actively supported the course of the current authorities and was awarded a visit to the Imam Hussein’s mosque by Mehriban Aliyeva two years ago.-05D-
