Hochstein: Southern Gas Corridor Strategically Important for US
The US believes Southern Gas Corridor in of strategic importance and supports it as it made efforts to implement such a pipeline project as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan at the time. On Thursday at a press conference in Baku, this was expressed by the special envoy and coordinator of the US State Department on international energy issues Amos Hochstein.
The US will continue to make efforts for the realization of the project Southern Gas Corridor. According to him, this project is very important for Azerbaijan, and at the same time it is one of the projects that provide energy and political security in Europe. The US believes this project is the same strategic and important as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
In his view, such a powerful project as Southern Gas Corridor that covers many countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Albania and Italy, may face various political and geopolitical problems. "As it was in the past, we have to solve these problems together and will continue to work together. The United States will continue to support the project Southern Gas Corridor," Hochstein said.
According to him, Southern Gas Corridor plays an important role in the political and energy security of Europe and is important to diversify energy flows to Europe.
He said for the US the priority is the existing projects, but they are watching the developments around the project Turkish Stream No matter what project it is - South Stream or Turkish Stream, it is important to ensure energy security of Europe.
He noted that neither the US nor other countries believe that Russia cannot become a part of the energy security system. However, he said they do not want a country-supplier entering the market to infringe the rights and conduct an exclusive policy. Any country, entering the market, should be free to choose a supplier, making a choice based on the price factor, Hochstein said.
According to him, in any case, a pipeline should not be used as a weapon against any country or as a means of influence.
On the question of Turan if the US supports the Transcaspian gas pipeline, Hochstein said US supports any projects that might be agreed upon by the neighbors, including the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline.
Regarding the global oil prices, he rejected US involvement in the hydrocarbon value fall.
Unlike most countries in the world US has more than one or five companies. In the market there are more than 4,000 companies and, therefore, the government is not in a position to dictate terms.
As Hochstein said, supply growth is observed in the global energy market, so the prices are reduced.
Only OPEC is a structure that affects the price changes and members of the organization have recently decided to reduce production in order to ensure the price growth. -16C06--

On December 28, the trial of Abzas Media began, with the prosecutor reading the indictment. At the start of the session at the Baku Serious Crimes Court, the accused, the chief editor of Abzas Media, Sevinc Vagifgizi, filed a motion to disqualify the court panel.
