Human Rights Committee urges Islamists recognize them as political prisoners
Committee to protect the arrested activists of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) and other believers turned to the defenders Novella Jafaroglu, Saadat Bananyarly and Saida Gojamanli and called for protection of the rights of these individuals.
The appeal also requested to recognize eight Islamists as political prisoners (convicted of forming an illegal armed group) as well as 10 men from Said Dadashbeyli's group (convicted on charges of collaboration with the intelligence agencies of Iran).
The statement authors urge to join the treatment of human rights defenders to the Deputy Secretary General of CE Gabriele Battani-Dragoni and PACE rapporteur on political prisoners Christopher Strasser for recognizing these people as political prisoners.
The statement authors also call for support for their request the leader of the Musavat Party Isa Gambar.
The statement was signed by the Acting President of the Islamic Party Elchin Manafov and the head of the Committee to protect the rights of arrested Islamists Natig Kerimov. -03D06-

According to a report by Turan correspondent, the discussions took place behind closed doors and lasted for over an hour. No statements were made to the press following the meeting. Furthermore, conference security prevented journalists from asking questions to the meeting participants.

She had been accredited in the "Green Zone" as a civil rights activist. From the moment she entered the conference area, a young man began to follow her.
