International Conference on Terrorism
"Strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism" is the theme of which opened in Baku on a two-day international conference. It is organized by the Government of Azerbaijan, ISESCO and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
The conference was attended by delegations from 50 countries at the level of ministers and other officials, and representatives of 25 international organizations, including NATO, OSCE, GUAM, CIS, etc.
The opening of the meeting was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The head Chapter MNS Mahmudov spoke about the attempts of the international terrorist network and "certain circles" disrupt the atmosphere of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan.
Makhmudov complained that extremist forces have recently been using the Internet and social networks.
According to him, the global network’s Azerbaijani-speaking segment hosts information resources that promote radical ideology. He expressed particular concern about the proliferation of information on the Internet about the manufacture of explosives and pointed to the importance of the fight against cybercrime, which became a new direction.
Mahmudov noted the need to support telecom companies to address these issues.
Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze explained the transit potential of the South Caucasus transport corridor and pointed to the possibility of their use by the international terrorist network. Georgia, for its part, takes necessary steps to stop such activities, and has prevented the transportation of enriched uranium through its territory.

Shamshad Aga, editor of the "Argument.az" website, has been found guilty in the Meydan TV case of smuggling (Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced to two months and one day in detention. The decision was made on February 6 by the Khatai District Court of Baku, as reported by Turan, citing his lawyer, Shahla Humbatova.
