Lavrov Urges Not to Divide Karabakh Settlement into Spheres of Influence
Baku / 08.12.20 / Turan: The modern world should not be considered as subject to division into spheres of influence, there will be enough space for everyone if they participate in the settlement of conflicts honestly, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday, commenting on the statement of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on the "astanization" of the Karabakh settlement.
As you know, Borrell said that "astanization" (from the name of the Astana format for the Syrian settlement) of relations between Russia and Turkey allowed these countries to divide the spheres of influence in Syria, Libya and the Caucasus.
“I really hope that the European Union will behave in a modern way and not try to present the modern world as subject to division into spheres of influence. There will be enough space for everyone if they participate honestly in the settlement of a conflict, and not for the sake of obtaining some geopolitical benefits and third-party benefits,” RIA Novosti quotes Lavrov as saying.
In his opinion, Borrell is concerned that someone other than the EU can take proactive steps on Karabakh. “As I understand it, he is a little concerned that someone other than the European Union can take some proactive steps in the modern world,” the Minister said. —0—
