Meeting of journalists and civil society with the Ambassador of the EU
Baku / 10.08.17 / Turan: On Friday, August 10, the head of the European Union representation in Azerbaijan, Kestutis Jankauskas, received a group of representatives of civil society and the media.
During the meeting, activists and journalists informed the EU ambassador about the situation in the field of freedom of speech and civil society, in particular, blocking media sites on the initiative of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies (MTCIT). It was pointed out that the lawsuits and court decisions on blocking websites were unlawful, and are regarded as an obvious step aimed at restricting freedom of the media and words.
Representatives of the non-governmental sector were informed about the limitations of NGO activities and government policy in this area. During the meeting, they exchanged views on these and other issues of interest in the framework of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation.
Ambassador Kestutis Jankauskas noted the EU's interest in developing freedom of expression, civil society, and deepening cooperation and cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan in various areas, including the subject of the meeting.
