Morningstar: The Fate of the Trans-Caspian to Be Solved by Baku and Ashgabat
Iran's involvement in the development of the gas field "Shah Deniz", could lead to the freezing of the project, because of U.S. sanctions against Iran, which has a10% share in the project.
However, the application of the exclusion principle could avoid the problem, said U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar, speaking at the conference.
Regarding the fate of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, the Ambassador said that if the two countries agree, then it should proceed.
Earlier, there were calls to bring this issue to international arbitration, however, this did not go beyond words. Therefore, the parties should agree between themselves, he said. The Ambassador welcomed the EU's interest in this project. -16D-
